MoPac and Slaughter Lane Construction Info

Over the past two months, crews have been constructing the new Slaughter Lane overpass for the Diverging Diamond Intersection (DDI) at Loop 1 (MoPac) and Slaughter Lane. Crews have completed the north section of the overpass and are ready to begin constructing the south half of the bridge. As a result, traffic will once again be temporarily shifted on Slaughter Lane at MoPac. Drivers will be diverted to the newly constructed north side of the bridge.

The traffic shift is scheduled to begin on Friday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. and is expected to be complete and open to motorists by 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, weather permitting. Police officers will be on site to help direct traffic.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Eastbound Slaughter Lane will be reduced to one dedicated turn-lane, one shared through- and left turn lane and one dedicated through-lane
  • The shift is anticipated to be in place for approximately four months, weather permitting

We understand the inconvenience this will cause and the increased travel time through the intersection. Crews are committed to getting the work done as quickly and safely as possible. We have put incentives in place to encourage the contractor to finish the work early. Conversely, the contractor faces penalties if the work is not completed on time. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to bring these needed safety and mobility improvements to the area.

Crews continue to work on sound walls, retaining walls, underground utilities, and ramp construction activities in various locations throughout the project limits. Excavation activities also continue in preparation for extending the MoPac mainlanes underneath Slaughter Lane and La Crosse Avenue. Once the overpass is built, additional traffic shifts will take place to allow crews to construct and stripe the DDI. Work on the La Crosse Avenue overpass will begin once the DDI is open to traffic.
